About
We started the Svalbard Seal Club in 2024 as an effort to build a community of better heath on Svalbard. We firmly believe that even though we live in a remote place and we have limited access to goods and services, this shouldn’t limit the possibilities for having a healthy lifestyle. We promote health and fitness by offering accessible and affordable health-focused products of the highest quality right here on the island. Our biggest priority is to lower the threshold for improving health for each individual in Longyearbyen, so that it is easier to make better health your next adventure.
We strongly believe that physical and mental health go hand in hand and therefore we cannot strengthen one without consideration for the other. We are thus working to build up partnerships and programmes to offer new and creative ways to build both stronger physical and mental health for everyone in our community.
That is why we are excited to share that 20% of our profits are going into supporting local non-profits Mental Helse Svalbard and Mental Helse Ungdom (Svalbard branch). These are sister organisation that are working in tandem to offer courses and workshops for all the residents of Svalbard, and to develop projects throughout the year that contribute to a healthier community and the building of better mental health services on Svalbard.
While Mental Helse Svalbard is a new organisation, Mental Helse Ungdom has been working to strengthen mental health offerings across Norway and promote awareness for over 20 years. They also have a number of projects focused on improving mental health services, especially for youth, which we believe are extremely important. We are so excited to be working with both of these organisations going forward!
We are always working to develop new partnerships and localise the impact we make rather than giving donations. The goal in this, is so that we can be sure that our efforts have more of a direct effect on the people in this special community.
We are always looking for ways to better Longyearbyen, so if you have a project or idea, get in touch with us to see how we can work together to positively impact mental health services in Svalbard!
